Drivers, servers, hairstylists feel economy's pinch on tips

I guess you ordered water, no appetizer, no dessert, lower end of the menu. That would be about $50, plus that damnable 10% tax.

In an upscale restaurant like Bonefish, 20% of a $50 tab would be $10. But I"m surprised that your tab was that low.

On Sunday night my family, six adults and two kiddies, ate in a Middle East restaurant in Takoma Park MD. A bottle of wine, entrees for the adults and a small pizza for the kiddies. It's a neighborhood place and not upscale. The food was great, though.

Tab came to about $85. I didn't know that my daughters took care of the tip, and I added $20 to my tab and put it on my credit card. (Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards are great!)

So, I guess the staff at that restaurant are very happy and are looking forward to our next visit--probably at Christmas time.

Damn, I'm sorry, just asked hubby and it was Up the Creek we went to. My bad. He says we've never been to Bonefish. We don't eat out in Montgomery much. My bad.

The last time hubby and I went to Applebees we took my stepsons. They are big eaters. Our bill was right at $100.
